WASHINGTON, DC—American Rivers’ Board of Trustees announced that Rachel’s Network Member Abigail Rome has joined the prominent conservation group’s board, effective immediately.

“Clean water and healthy rivers are among the biggest conservation issues of our time, impacting the health and well-being of every American. We are delighted to have Abigail Rome joining our board of directors,” said Bob Irvin, President of American Rivers. “We are grateful to Rachel’s Network for their help connecting Abigail to us.”

Abigail is an ecologist who has worked in biodiversity conservation for many years. She’s also a writer, an ecotourism planner, and a funder of environmental causes, especially those that address the impacts of climate change.

“I’m delighted to join the organization and protect rivers and related water resources across the country,” said Abigail.

Abigail’s appointment was facilitated by the Rachel’s Network’s Board Placement Program, which matches environmental and social justice nonprofits with their talented membership of women environmental funders. Fellow Member Kim Milligan also serves on the American Rivers board as Vice Chair, and helped initiate Abigail’s placement.

To date, more than 40 members have been placed on the boards of influential organizations. Board service is one of many ways that Rachel’s Network members are bringing positive change to their communities and the world. Abigail has been a member of Rachel’s Network since 2013.

“There are few people as committed to conservation as Abigail,” said Rachel’s Network President Thu Pham. “I’m certain American Rivers will benefit significantly from her expertise and passion.”

American Rivers protects wild rivers, restores damaged rivers and conserves clean water for people and nature. With more than 200,000 members, activists, and volunteers, they make a difference every day for clean water, rivers and communities nationwide.

Rachel’s Network, a nonprofit organization named in Rachel Carson’s honor, promotes women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth. Catalyzing the collective power of its membership, Rachel’s Network influences social, political, and economic systems to advance a healthy, thriving world.
