EARTHDAY.ORG president and environmental advocate Kathleen Rogers has joined the nonprofit funders’ network Rachel’s Network as a liaison. Under Kathleen’s leadership, EARTHDAY.ORG has grown into a global policy and activist organization with an international staff engaging the public on issues like climate change, conservation, pollution, and more.

Our founders chose Rachel as our namesake 20 years ago because they knew women and women’s environmental leadership continued to be obscured and diminished. Those founders gave us a mission: to promote women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth. We take that mission seriously. Six years ago, Urban Tilth took a neglected three-acre plot of land in North Richmond and turned it into a flourishing community farm. Now, they are working to purchase land they’ve been leasing and expand programing and infrastructure. Rachel’s Network provided a grant to Urban Tilth to help make this vision a reality.

Rachel’s Network Provides Grant to Student PIRGs’ New Voter Project

Young people continue to be underrepresented in our democracy, and COVID-19 has severely curtailed traditional youth voter registration efforts. As a result, Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project is using digital tools to reach potential voters and providing the information they need to navigate the 2020 election and beyond. Rachel’s Network is providing Student PIRGs a grant to help enable this work.

Green Finance with Clean Energy Credit Union

Public demand for clean energy is growing rapidly, but because clean energy products typically require a large upfront cost, there is a growing need for affordable financing. That’s why a passionate group of volunteers started Clean Energy Credit Union, a new financial institution that focuses solely on providing loans that help people afford clean energy products and services such as solar electric systems, electric vehicles, geothermal heat pumps, electric bicycles, high efficiency HVAC systems, and other green home improvements.
