WASHINGTON, DC – Rachel’s Network, a nonprofit that elevates and supports women environmental leaders, today announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Judith Albert, Letarik Amare, and Kimberly Middleton. Following these appointments, the board comprises 16 directors.
“We are thrilled to welcome these three incredible leaders to our board of directors,” said Rachel’s Network President Fern Shepard. “Their long experience in equitable and just philanthropy is deeply valued as we strengthen our work in the environmental movement.”
These appointments come as Rachel’s Network has grown its total grantmaking to over $3.5 million, primarily through the Catalyst Award, an annual prize that honors women environmental leaders of color. The organization also fosters funder education and organizing, and relationship-building events for women in the movement.
The new board members will begin their three-year terms with Rachel’s Network in May 2025:
- Judith Albert bridges the worlds of finance and sustainability. She has extensive experience in investment banking and corporate law, with a focus on Latin America. As executive director of E2 (an affiliate of NRDC), she ran a network of business executives who promote sound environmental policy on the economic merits. Judy served as board chair of Cornerstone Capital, a financial advisory firm, and is currently board chair of Inside Climate News, the largest dedicated climate newsroom in the US. She is active in her Hudson Valley community, and with the NYC Green Fund.
- Letarik Amare (she/her) is a founding partner of Radiant Strategies and a philanthropic professional who believes that the key to meaningful power-building is rooted in the deeply transformative power of love and its hand in building a radically generous and joyful community. Through Radiant Strategies, Letarik partners with individuals, groups, and organizations to develop philanthropic practices that center equity, human flourishing, and joy.
- Kimberly Middleton is the climate program officer to Tides Foundation’s Women’s Environmental Leadership Fund (WE LEAD) and the Frontline Justice Fund. Since 2020, these grantmaking and programmatic initiatives have granted close to $30M to groups across the US with the mission of shifting resources and power to communities that have historically been denied both to advance climate and environmental justice. Prior to joining Tides, Kimberly served as program officer to the International Women’s Program of the Open Society Foundations.
