A recent piece in Stanford Social Innovation Review, “The Relational Work of Systems Change,” suggests an answer: it’s the connections between people and institutions that are capable of changing systems, not the parts in isolation. Our founders chose Rachel as our namesake 20 years ago because they knew women and women’s environmental leadership continued to be obscured and diminished. Those founders gave us a mission: to promote women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth. We take that mission seriously. In 2018, our co-funding program granted more than ever before, funding projects addressing pesticide overuse, climate change, sustainable agriculture, and borderlands conservation.
