In a moment when our work for a better world can feel daunting, it has been grounding and energizing to hear from the women in our community about their courage and successes. Our network of environmental funders and advocates are showing up: with clarity, courage, and a deep commitment to doing and resourcing work that might otherwise be overlooked.
There’s no getting around it: the years ahead will be arduous for both women and the environment. Everything our organization and members have worked for in the last 25 years is now at risk because of the new administration. But while some politicians, corporations, and organizations are distancing themselves from vital environmental work and diversity, equity, and inclusion, Rachel’s Network remains resolute.
Rachel’s Network is a community of women working together to protect people and planet through collective learning, funding, and advocacy. Our funder members are engaged in supporting grassroots organizations led by women across many issues from toxics and regenerative agriculture to conservation and climate change. When the problems of our world are so multi-faceted and the system so entrenched, where is the best place to put our time and resources? A recent piece in Stanford Social Innovation Review, “The Relational Work of Systems Change,” suggests an answer: it’s the connections between people and institutions that are capable of changing systems, not the parts in isolation.
