Event Details

Agriculture is Catalyst Awardee Erika Allen’s family legacy. As the granddaughter of sharecroppers and the daughter of urban farming trailblazer Will Allen, Erika Allen’s wisdom and dedication has led to a robust network of eight urban farms on 11 acres throughout Chicago. As CEO of Urban Growers Collective, she provides 23,000 pounds of fresh produce annually to food-insecure Chicagoans along with public workshops, workforce development, and land stewardship.

Erika’s latest project, Green Era Campus, is converting a nine-acre vacant brownfield into a thriving community center, nursery, food market and the Midwest’s first self-sustainable anaerobic digester. The facility is diverting millions of pounds of food waste from landfills and providing jobs for South Side residents. Join this webinar to learn how Erika integrates her varied passions—food, art, social and racial justice, renewable energy, and environmental action—for the benefit of her community and the planet.
