Ocean Conservancy CEO Janis Searles Jones, a lawyer, advocate and marine conservation expert, has joined the nonprofit funders’ network Rachel’s Network as a Leadership Liaison. Janis leads Ocean Conservancy’s work on tackling the pervasive and growing problem of marine debris, risky oil and gas development in places like the Arctic, climate change and ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries, and more.

The region has a fraught past when it comes to environmental protection, but advocates and conservationists are making progress, and Rachel’s Network was there to learn about and celebrate their efforts.

Through her organization, the Greening Youth Foundation, Angelou is working to change the face of conservation in the United States and help young people of color find meaningful careers in conservation.

Two inspiring partners are Terese and John Hart, who work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and who, with support from Rainforest Trust, played a key role in the recent declaration of the new Lomami National Park.
