Equal parts practical guide and spiritual handbook, Farming While Black by 2019 Catalyst Awardee Leah Penniman teaches us how to feed the land while feeding our souls. Through Leah’s stories, chants, recipes, and social justice curriculum, our book club will confront colonialism’s history in agriculture, embrace Afro-indigenous sovereignty, and foster healing through anti-racism. The author will join us for on March 4 for a concluding discussion about her book.

Purchase the book on your own (shop local and/or from a Black-owned bookstore), and join for these one hour gatherings when you can throughout the fall and winter seasons.

When human beings were too much to bear, the earth consistently held firm under my feel and the solid, sticky trunk of the majestic white pine offered me something stable to grasp.
– Leah Penniman
