In 2018, our co-funding program granted more than ever before, funding projects addressing pesticide overuse, climate change, sustainable agriculture, and borderlands conservation. We are proud to have seen the difference our network of women made in 2017, from supporting a coalition campaigning against the damaging US-Mexico border wall and launching our When Women Lead report lauding the environmental records of women in Congress, to elevating women environmental leaders through our Ashoka Fellowship, and more.
There’s no denying 2016 was a thorny year for women and the environment. But in the days following the election, we’ve seen a renewed interest in collective action across our network and in the larger society. 2015 was a transformative year for Rachel’s Network. We spent a large part of the year charting the future of the organization through our Vision 2020 strategic plan. We’re delighted that this plan confirms the values we cherish, and takes them to the next level with passion and purpose. Sometimes we simply need a role model to show us that change is possible. For the women of Rachel’s Network, these “champions of change” are abundant. Their peers are leading campaigns to protect threatened wildlife and promote renewable energy, producing documentary films, filing shareholder resolutions in the name of sustainability at major companies, and helping keep the lights on with their general operating support.
